PROFILE - JUDITH STANDING

photo Judith StandingJudith’s formal art training after leaving school was first through the Perth Technical College where she studied for four years part time while working in a Silk Screen Art Studio. Some years later, with family now grown up she re-entered the West Australian TAFE system in the late 1980’s to refresh and update her expertise and achieved a Diploma of Art and Design (Fine Art) receiving a special award for Studio Proficiency.

She started Porcelain Painting under the tutelage of Marjorie Jarrett in Pennant Hills NSW in 1978 and began taking her own classes by 1980 in the Hawkesbury District Art Society rooms before moving back to Western Australia.

Judith is immensely grateful to all the teachers she has had contact with along the way for their support and guidance. She has participated in many juried and judged art shows gaining numerous awards, including first place in an International Porcelain Art Teachers competition held in America. While living in Sydney and entering the Royal Easter Show her work had been placed in the Standard of Excellence cabinet several times. Her porcelain paintings have gone to all corners of the globe.

APAT formerly IPAT with all its commitments and responsibilities has been a large part of her life and porcelain painting career and while teaching regular weekly classes and workshops keeps her very busy, she does enjoy switching to painting works on paper preferring landscapes and using gouache. Judith has no favourite subject matter, just enjoys whatever project she is working on at the time and the challenges the painting and the students may bring.
