PROFILE - AUDREY RAYNER

Photo Audrey RaynerMy love of porcelain started as a young girl, when a gift shop opened close to home near the local theatre. I used to window shop admiring all the beautiful china.

After passing though the education system and passing Junior Level Art, I was fortunate enough to have close contact with Mrs Alice Stewart who in 1970 had an opening in her class. I was expecting my third child at this time and with the assistance of my mother-in-law was able to take part in a class each Monday pm.

Further classes with Molly Perrin in Mt Lawley and Chris Laidman in Midland led to my sitting and achieving the Certificate of Onglaze Painting. I commenced teaching at Hampton Senior High School TAFE and continued at home. Since then I have attended many exhibitions and workshops with Australian and overseas Porcelain Artists.

My experiments with Metallic paints have been most rewarding though there is no particular aspect of porcelain art that I prefer. I can sit down to paint with a headache and get up later without it, certainly a better recommendation than painkillers.
