From the 12th to 14th February, APAT WA hosted a three day workshop titled 'Silhouettes' with guest artist Anne Blake. The venue was McDougal House, Como.
Silhouette designs were created by each student using sample material provided by Anne or a subject of their own choice. Consideration was given on how to embellish each design using various techniques to enhance the finished silhouette. The use of liquid bright gold, various texture products and/or lustre finishes were all considered.
The painting group comprised APAT members, including Dee, Carolyn and Aileen who had travelled up from Busselton, as well as two relatively novice painters who joined the class. Three days of industrious painting were spent as the various designs took shape.
By the end of the first day each student had created their individual design, drafted it to their porcelain and penned the design outline. On day two, after masking, the main silhouette was dry dusted with black and other work completed on the decorative finishes. The final day comprised of reviewing and adjusting the design and applying some additional decorative techniques and relief work.
It was a very friendly class with lots of good humour prevailing. Hopefully the workshop will give some inspiration to these talented ladies.
